Amtrak Service Cutbacks Hit Florida Hard

15 May 2020 6:28 AM | Jackson McQuigg (Administrator)

From Trains Magazine:

Due to track work, the Silver Star is cut to a weekend train (Thursday-Sunday) only, depending on the direction. No connecting bus service to Tampa, either. The Meteor will run during the week, albeit its schedule has been impacted, as well.

And forget about eating in the dining car for now, thanks to the coronavirus.

For those driving in the greater Tampa area, Amtrak does have some limited long-term parking at Tampa Union Station behind the old baggage building and close to the new platform under construction. You must be traveling by train and be gone for not more than a couple of weeks or so.

Taking a bus from Pinellas County on PSTA's routes may work on weekidays, but there is no weekend service. Forget taking Greyhound, you cannot travel locally between Tampa and Pinellas County, amd Greyhound just moved to Pinellas Park Mall, away from downtown St. Petersburg. Don't forget about passenger restrictions due to COVID-19. We also lost Supershuttle as they went out of business as well.
