New Sunset Resolution Rally

15 Feb 2012 9:49 PM | Stephen Sayles (Administrator)

FCRP members, Bart Bibler who lives in Tallahassee (850) 570-8165 called me today and asked for our support.

The City of Tallahassee passed a resolution of support on November 22, 2011, and has contacted numerous other local governments along the route receiving approximately 15 resolutions so far, and will be holding a press conference in Tallahassee at the Amtrak Station on February 27 (details still being finalized). We anticipate that several of these local government officials will participate, and invitations will be made to pertinent state legislators, Congress and state government agencies (Governors Office and FDOT). I want to know if your organization would like to play a role in the press conference, and if so, your ideas on that role. I look forward to hearing from you.

Let's hope this wave gets some attention.

President FCRP

Nice, but Amtrak has made it very clear that this route is dead. It will also be necessary for someone to come up with about $20M for PTC and another $$M or so to bring the track up from slow freight level to passenger level, and supporter that I am, I am not in favor of the state spending a dime on it, this is a federal route and should be restored (if it ever is) as such.

Wish I could attend, hoping for the best for those who do go. I do have concerns about a station stop for Mobile, AL and where it would be. Since FEMA rebuilt just about all of downtown Mobile from the ground up, is there any chance we could get a new train depot built on the same location, even if it is an unstaffed, open air platform? Can FEMA help us out on this or is it too late to ask for assistance in rebuilding a new depot at Mobile?
