New Orleans Times-Picayune Interviews Rep. John Mica About Amtrak, Sunset Limited

26 Oct 2011 9:12 AM | Jackson McQuigg (Administrator)

Which is more incredible?

Representative John Mica's outrageous statements about Amtrak being a "Soviet-style railroad"?

Or the fact that a New Orleans Times-Picayune newspaper reporter would take them all at face value-- especially the "subsidy per person" argument often made against the Sunset Limited?

Letters to the editor of the Times-Picayune are encouraged.

What difference does it make. If the Republicans take over the rest of the government in 2012, as appears likely, Mica can shutdown any route he wants, or all of it. Truncating the route at NewOrleans was a ploy to get him off Amtrak's back, which worked for a while, but what gets cut now to appease him.

That's especially true if it's in Florida. He sure did not crow any at all when amtrak replaced train service with buses to Waldo,Ocala,Wildwood, and Dade City. If cuts are in the cards again, Isuppose Tampa and Lakeland next. If they want me to fly, fine. I'll begin my train trip in Los Angeles instead.
