Being employed as a truck driver, this horrific event reminds me of the City of New Orleans disaster back in 1999. It hurst me both ways as a truck driver, and as an occeassional passenger on Amtrak. One thing I learned was that the vehicular speed limit at this crossing was 70MPH. Whoa! That's abit too fast for crossing tracks; I wouldn't even think about it in the truck I drive. Crossing tracks is rough on trucks. And furthermore, in an open desert area like this, there is NO excuse why a flyover was not built in the first place.
