George Will Newsweek Column Slams Passenger Rail

27 Feb 2011 10:25 AM | Jackson McQuigg (Administrator)

If anyone doubts that the same arguments which have been used against Amtrak and other passenger rail projects are one and the same with those being used against high speed rail, one need look no further than this column by George Will in the current issue of Newsweek.

Will has been an outspoken adversary of Amtrak for many years, but this column indicates that he feels like government support for passenger rail is part of a big government conspiracy.

Reality check, George! The reasons to support passenger rail are not partisan at all.

That's why plenty of Republican support passenger rail, as well.

Here's the conspiracy, folks. If you believe that people can be transported efficiently from point A to point B in this country by any means other than "drive or fly," you are thought of as some kind of socialist wack job. How did we get that way? You'd think that the conservative position would be to embrace rail.
