President's Budget Would Eliminate Amtrak's Long Distance Trains

16 Mar 2017 9:08 AM | Jackson McQuigg (Administrator)

According to the Washington Post, President Trump's proposed budget is out and specifically targets Amtrak's long distance trains for elimination.

This proposal uses the erroneous conclusion, fed by USDOT's accounting, that Amtrak's long distance trains are the source of most of its losses. The Silver Meteor, Silver Star, and the Auto-Train would be eliminated under this proposal, while the lucky few living in the Boston-New York-Washington Northeast Corridor would retain train service despite the need for massive capital outlays from the Federal government there.

Time to speak up to your elected representatives in favor of Amtrak long distance trains!
