New Orleans-Florida Amtrak Service Supporter Voted Out of Office

03 Nov 2010 5:29 PM | Jackson McQuigg (Administrator)

The Sunset Limited lost a friend in Tallahassee and Panhandle-area Congressman Allen Boyd, who was defeated last night.

Boyd, a “blue dog” Democrat, had advocated for the return of Amtrak service along the Sunset Route east of New Orleans.

More on the Congressman's defeat can be found here on WMBB-TV's website.

Congressman Boyd is not related to former Amtrak President and Florida native Alan Boyd, incidentally.

Well we have you folks in Central Florida that keep putting MIca back in office to thank for the loss of the Sunset East, and now that the same anti-Amtrak guy will be head of the Transportation & Infrastructure committee, you may be begging us in the Northeast of Florida to help you save whatever you thought you had. Remember, John gets his campaign money largely from big oil and other groups that don't want us to have trains. I have reluctantly written off any further interest in Amtrak and as information, SMART has also folded as of Oct. 23.
