Burbank airport in California may have the upper hand on being America's first truly intermodal airport. Pedestrian walkways and overpasses recently opened with a new car rental facility, bus terminal serving both local transit and intercity services, better access to Amtrak and Metrolink trains, and bicycle facilities. Metrolink is adding another rail station on the north side of the airport which will end the need to shuttle passengers to downtown Burbank to access the Antelope Valley line.
Here's a little secret about Bob Hope Burbank Airport (BUR)that many air travelers don't know: Burbank is closer to to downtown Los Angeles than Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). A rail ride from BUR is less than an hour (no change of trains), LAX will take close to two hours(two changes, plus a bus connection from the Aviation Blvd. Green Line station).
Also. Burbank Airport is going to serve as an emergency center to distribute relief supplies should the "big one" hit California.
