For the many times I've spent driving, waiting for a passenger train at a railroad crossing is no different than waiting for a red traffic light at a city street intersection. I've waited for red lights longer at major highway intersections than for a 100-car freight train moving at a reasonable speed above 50 MPH.Passenger trains are gone within seconds at speeds topping 70 MPH.
